Business in Mandeville,Jamaica
Mandeville has firmly established itself as the economic center of
Central Jamaica. Although it may be regarded as a residential
community, business wise the town stands tall. This is dependent
heavily on its privileged location; therefore it was always poised to
become what it is now.
Shopping malls and plazas are found all over town in addition to
supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants and many other business
establishments. Many people depend on Mandeville to provide them
with the essential goods and services that they need. This saves them
much as they would have to travel to Kingston to do their transactions.
Opening a business in Mandeville can be economically viable owing to
the affluence of the population. But this depends on the area of
business which one enters. Providing goods or services to the public
which are scarce or hard to obtain is a good example. Bear in mind that
operating costs may be high because space is limited.
During the last decade or so the town has been enjoying an economic
boom especially in the real estate sector. Several new malls have been
opened along with other business enterprises. The fast food industry
also has a strong presence here; KFC, Tastee, Burger King, Domino’s
and Mothers are all here.
Mandeville has asserted itself as the economic hub of Central Jamaica
and the town has enjoyed tremendous growth even with the closure of
the Kirkvine bauxite plant to which the Mandeville owes much to. One
minor hiccup in doing business is the lack of parking space for
customers and clients. Permit parking was introduced a few years ago
to alleviate the situation but the taxi and bus drivers have created a
chaotic situation.
